It’s the NUC Sten-BLOG! No pun intended!

Hello readers! My name is Katrina and I am currently enrolled into the Nursing Unit Clerk program here at Stenberg College. I have been at Stenberg for 7 months now and absolutely love it!

Might I say now, Stenberg is not like other Colleges or Universities – it is a community. A community of determined students and passionate staff members that have the dedication and motivation to not only fulfill the needs of students but also to prepare them for their upcoming careers!

Starting school again after high school was very difficult for me. I wanted to take one year off before I went to college; a year passed and I felt I still wasn’t ready. My sister, enrolled May of 2012 in the PN program, had an appointment with one of the advisors at Stenberg and my mom thought it would be a great idea to go the campus and possibly ask any questions I had. I met with Jandy (Advisor) and she introduced me to all the available programs Stenberg offers. My Mom chose to take the Nursing Unit Clerk Program and has been working for years now. She had been trying to push me to try going to school for Unit Clerk but I had absolutely no interest until I met with Jandy. I wasn’t to keen on doing any clinical work, but Jandy truly felt that I would exceed all expectations. It was that day I took the entrance exam for the Nursing Unit Clerk Program.

Unfortunately, I was eight credits short of graduating high school and was extremely disappointed because I felt like I was going to get no where in life – like I wouldn’t make it. My family and Jandy encouraged me to finish my high school classes to get me credits in summer school so I can go straight to Stenberg in the Fall. And that I did, and I passed with flying colors – it was truly a blessing.

Life at Stenberg right now is great, I just finished the Surgical Order Transcription module and it went well. “Stay tuned” seems a little played out but keep checking in with me for more updates on the Nursing Unit Clerk Program here at Stenberg!

One should guard against preaching to young people success in the customary form as the main aim in life. The most important motive for work in school and in life is pleasure in work, pleasure in its result, and the knowledge of the value of the result to the community.

We want to congratulate Katrina on completing the Nursing Unit Clerk program! It’s been a hard few months, but she has done well and we wish her the best of luck on the next chapter of her career and life.
