I wanted to tell you a little bit about the campus life at Stenberg College. It is definitely not all work and no play here. There is opportunity to have fun and enjoy yourself too.
Once a month the College puts on a Campus Life event. Since I have been a student here we have had a wide variety of events. There has been a yoga and fitness class. Everyone was invited to sign up and learn some basic yoga positions. There were also some healthy treats provided throughout the day.
For October there was a door decorating contest for each of the different classes. The course that won the prize for the best decorated door won some cash for lunch or a party for their entire class. On October 31 it was also wear your Halloween costume to school day. There was also a guess the weight of the pumpkin contest sponsored by one of the classes. The students who came in the top three won gift cards to Tim Horton’s.
In November the College sponsored a bring your family to the movie day at the theaters at Guildford. We registered in advance and could bring another adult and 2 child. Our admissions included popcorn and drinks for everyone and choice of the movies. My family went and saw Big Hero 6. We really enjoyed ourselves and had a great break from school. I know that others in my class went and saw the Hunger Games movie that was just released.
In December, the campus held a build a gingerbread house contest for each class. The only rules were that everything on it had to be edible. The College supplied the materials for a basic house. It was great to see how creative each class got. There was also a photo contest in December, where we had a chance to submit a photo to appear in the Stenberg calendar. Just for submitting a photo you got a Tim Horton’s gift card worth $10.
Each class will also hold pot lucks to celebrate the end of a course, or the completion of a big section of their course. These are always a lot of fun and help to bring the class together. We all work hard in our different courses at Stenberg College and the Campus Life events give us a chance to have some fun and all build community spirit both within your course and within Stenberg College.
The Campus Life events have given me a chance to get to know other students from different programs and make some friends from different programs that I would not have otherwise met. It can be easy to get focussed on just your studies whilst you are here. Don’t forget to take some time to enjoy the other part of being a student too and have some fun. The Campus Life events are a good way to do that and make it easy as you don’t have to leave the campus to do it.
