My name is Megan and I am currently taking the Health Care Assistant Certificate Program at Stenberg College. I decided to become a Health Care Assistant because I have been working in the health care field as a Medical Office Assistant for the past 4 years now and decided that I wanted to become more hands-on and actually work with people. The reason that I chose Health Care Assistant is because of my nana. She was 89 years old when she passed away last year and had Alzheimer’s which she had been living with for about 10 years. My mother had been living with her and taking care of her over the years and I tended to help out a lot. I believe that no elderly person should have to spend their last years lonely or untaken care of and that people that really need help should be entitled to it and be cared for by people that truly want to be there.
During my free time I sit on the Board of Directors with Mother’s Against Drunk Driver’s Metro Vancouver Chapter. I help with planning event’s that we do to help raise awareness and support victims. I have been with the board for about 2 years now and it is one of the most rewarding things I do. I also really like to be outdoors, camping is one of my favorite things to do and I also play on two baseball teams during the summer.
