Covid-19 Update

Our main campus in Central City is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday to limited staff, students, and appointment-only applicants. As of Sept 20, 2021, in-class activities have resumed, and labs only are being conducted in unit 262 in Central City and both King George campuses as required.

Stenberg College prioritizes the health of our staff, instructors, students and visitors. Therefore, everyone must conduct a self-assessment online prior to coming in. If you have any of the following COVID-19 symptoms, we ask you not to come in, seek medical consultation, and arrange or reschedule your application appointment by phone. Please do not come to Stenberg College if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Fevers
  • Chills
  • New or worsening cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • New muscle aches or headache
  • Sore throat
  • Travelled outside of Canada within the last 14 days
  • Close contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19

To ensure the safety of our staff, we recommend everyone to bring a mask/face covering and wear it for the duration they are in our building. In addition, everyone is expected to practice the Core Measures for Personal Self-care to reduce transmission:

  • No handshaking as the new norm
  • Practice good hygiene (frequent handwashing with soap and water and use of hand sanitizers, avoid touching your face, respiratory etiquette, disinfect frequently touched surfaces)
  • Always maintain social distancing of two meters upon arrival, during meal breaks and on departure when possible
  • A further consideration is for individuals at risk of a more severe illness (because they are over 60 years old, have compromised immune systems or underlying chronic medical conditions) to properly inform themselves of risk, assess their own risk tolerance, and think through extra precautions they may wish to take over the coming months

If you are attending an admissions appointment, please come alone and wear a mask as there is limited space for social distancing. Please do not bring any guests. All visitors, please wash your hands or clean them with hand sanitizer before and after your visit. Please maintain physical distancing of 2 meters (6 feet) if possible.

In addition to the B.C. Provincial Health Officer orders dated on Sept 29, 2021, Stenberg College requires all students and faculty members participating in health science programs must be fully immunized as of Oct 24, 2021, and provide proof of vaccination to participate in student practicums and clinical placements in long-term care or extended-care facilities. Proof of vaccination is not required to attend classes or part of employment to be at Stenberg owned facilities.

For information regarding our contingency plan and safety protocols if an outbreak is detected, please see our COVID-19 Contingency Plan.

Lab Specific
In addition to the above, for students and staff attending labs, please do not bring any unnecessary supplies or bags with you, only essential items. It is not encouraged to bring backpacks. Please wipe down the surfaces, mouse, computer keyboards, monitors etc. before and after use with disinfectants provided onsite.

We will not permit any outside guests to volunteer for phlebotomy, so completion of skills will be performed solely on peers and/or instructors. All students will need to follow COVID-19 personal protective procedures during their time in the lab. COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) includes wearing masks, goggles/safety glasses, gloves and in some cases gowns while performing any direct “patient” care. The expectation of cleaning and decontamination procedures will be shared and demonstrated in labs. Procedures including donning and doffing must be practiced and performed during labs to ensure competency during your practicum for your own safety as well as others.

International Students
We have developed a detailed plan to manage all arriving international students’ compliance with the federal guidance document to implement the 14-day quarantine requirement under the Quarantine Act. For more information, please see our Pre-Arrival Guide for International Students and our Arrival Plan for International Students.
