Hey,
Hope winter is treating you well and your keeping warm enough. On the topic of winter I’m going to tell you all about our exciting campus life.
When I applied to school the day I came in they had actually just finished having a gingerbread house decorating contest, so the front office was filled with festive and fun houses. Since I have started school we have had many fun competitions and celebrations.
Contests
To start off every few months the school offers free movie tickets to all students. I have attended both times and enjoyed the treat. Being so busy with school and work it’s hard to get time for yourself to do things like that. We’ve had photo contests, the last one that we had we submitted pictures of things that inspired us students and all of the winning pictures are going in the 2015 calendars. We have had dress up days where we dressed like cowboys and cowgirls. We had a Halloween dress up competition where one of my very own classmates won a prize. I was not able to participate in the judging part but I did dress up as a lion for the day.
The contest we are doing right now is to help a family in need over the holidays. In our classes we have made beautiful gift baskets that are being raffled off later in December. The baskets that all of the classes have donated are awesome and I really hope our donations and support help make this family’s holidays wonderful.
Better place to do my studies
Another interesting thing about school is that we are located in the mall. Often they have interesting activity’s going on like cops riding indoor exercise bikes for cancer. Radio stations having activities. The decorations during Christmas are my favorite part. Especially the giant deer. I’ve never been to any other college, but I don’t think they have as many cultural and exciting things to participate in. I have roughly 6 months or so left in my program and I still don’t think I could have found a better place to do my studies.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I really enjoy when people remember my name or my face. Teachers and faculty know me by name. I am not just a number or a face to them. They actually care about who I am and my well-being. When I am having a rough time or a bad day, they notice it and are happy to talk me through it. My teachers are understanding that some of the subjects we talk about can be very tough. Especially when you have the life experience of having been through it.
All of my teachers have been understanding and are always helping me to be the best me I can be. Encouraging me, helping me find my strengths and work through my weaknesses. I have a really hard time believing in myself and sometimes all you need is strong people standing behind you believing in you. Holding you up and encouraging you when you really don’t believe in yourself.
Strong support
I am not going to lie and say that school is easy. That I don’t struggle, between work and school, trying to maintain a personal life and trying to grow as a young woman just learning how life works.
I don’t know if I would still be in this program if it was not for the strong support of my teachers and my classmates. My classmates are absolutely some of the most amazing people I have ever met. We are like a large family. When one of us struggles we do it and get through it together. We’ve silly inside jokes and we cry a lot together (well I cry and they cry sometimes) we are not alone and we don’t let anyone fall behind. We help each other grow by working as a team and working off each other’s strengths. We have been through a lot in the last 9 months. There have been heart breaking moments, anger, growth and arguments.
Understanding and encouragement, each and every one of my classmates plays a large part of my education. We teach each other through our experiences, we all have things we bring to the table. I think we are one of the luckiest cohorts, because we formed a bond. Like a family we stick together, no one gets left behind and we have each other’s backs. I hope that you are as lucky as we are in your future and that you get as much out of your experience as I have.
Happy holidays, be safe and don’t drink and drive.
