I’m fascinated by the complex structure of the human body. Specifically, how each body system connects with one another in a variety of different environments. To me, this is a beautiful curiosity to possess.
Through my life, I had always wondered how I could explore this curiosity, while also making a distinct difference in people’s lives.
Discovering Stenberg College’s Pharmacy Technician program was a “light bulb” moment. It is the perfect combination of everything: being “behind the scenes” and also having an important impact on patient care. It was so interesting learning about the reality of such a detail-oriented career. These interests led me to pursue a journey in becoming a Pharmacy Technician student and grow my personal skills of collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving.
The start of the learning journey

Enrolling in this program was one of the most challenging and biggest steps I have taken to further my growth and development into a rewarding career.
Every day brings new challenges and new information, from learning vital responsibilities of handling medications to possessing knowledge of nearly every medication classification. Working through the pharmacology unit started off overwhelming. It’s a course that was dreadful to many of us. However, our amazing instructors always ensure that the material resonates with us during our classes, making each session interactive and memorable.
The days usually start off in a variety of ways: either I wake up and am thinking about yesterday’s law slides or I’m wondering if I can remember the trade name of ramipril. I usually spend my morning filling up with information or caffeine, or both. Scrolling through slides, rewatching lectures and working to grasp and resonate with information so that I can fully understand the complexity. It truly is fascinating how little we may know regarding certain medications, body processes and the sciences that maintain balance in our bodies.
After productive sessions of study, I find some self-care is extremely important. Whether that’s simply playing with my birds, watching TV or going on a walk, taking small breaks can be rewarding and a vital mental reset before getting back on track. Usually by this time, it’s time for class, and all focus shifts to understanding the material before moving forward. Staying engaged in class and reviewing material prior contribute significantly to my understanding of the amount of information that is presented.
Every day is a learning day

Every day is a new lesson learned. It is interesting to learn about how much Pharmacy Technicians contribute to both community and hospital environments. We are a vital part in reviewing prescriptions, preventing errors and ensuring effective communication across all domains in each setting. Having a strong understanding of our role is essential to determining success. Another rewarding part of being in such a complex program includes the support of all our classmates. We all support one another, celebrate the small victories, and help each other stay motivated throughout our journey together.
The program covers everything from specific medical terminology to drug classification and their mechanisms of action. Some days are definitely harder than others. We can go from feeling that we are on track and have everything in order, and other days may feel as though everything is going over our heads. But the most important thing is that we all learn and support each other. Creating strong bonds with those working along with you are very meaningful connections.
Every day, I feel more confident that I have truly made the right decision. I am engaging in my passion with the complexity of our human body while making a significant impact in healthcare and the community.
