Therapeutic Recreation Assistant (Gerontology Specialization) | Sternberg College

Government Sponsored Program in partnership with BC Care Providers Association

Stenberg College and the BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) have announced a government-sponsored training program for BC residents to become Therapeutic Recreation Assistants (TRA). Students from the OkanaganVancouver Island, and Kootenay regions of B.C. will receive free skills training delivered online with Stenberg College.

The start date is September 5th, 2023

Stenberg Admission Prerequisites

  • 19 years of age or grade 12 graduation 
  • Passing a verbal test if English is an additional language
  • Completion of a Criminal Record Consent Form under the Criminal Record Review Act
  • Successful completion of our online Computer Skills Entrance test
  • Passing Stenberg College entrance examination for reading and spelling or successful completion of English 12 or higher

CWRG Eligibility Criteria

  • Currently reside in B.C.; (Okanagan, Vancouver Island or Kootenay regions);
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person entitled to work in Canada;
  • Be in possession of a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN);
  • Be unemployed, or employed part-time*, seasonally, casually, or precariously**;
  • Have not participated in any other CWRG funded training projects in the last 12 months or be currently enrolled in any other federally or provincially funded training programs at the start of the project;
